So I decided to start writing “Adventure Guides” for my guests of the Lynchburg Lakehouse. My first guide is to the state park. I am so impressed with this state park and all the amenities it offers. We have rented pontoons from the marina on occasion, made stops for ice-cream and pizza, played on the playground, and hiked a few trails. Still on my 3 year old’s list is to go to the swimming pool with the high diving boards. But my favorite is the hiking and the gorgeous setting. Call ahead as some of the amenities are seasonal. There is also a golf course, Bear Trace.
The trail I like best is “Overlook Tr” (link to state park map). There is an overlook with views that you will not want to miss. It is paved, and stroller friendly. I did this trail with my 3 year old and year old baby. The first attempt we didn’t make it to the overlook, to be honest. It is 1.3 miles one way. Our little one didn’t want to be in her carrier one more minute! So I found a short-cut the next day and tried again. SHORTCUT. Look at the trail map for Marble Plains Baptist Church. Park here to start your hike. Walk towards their fellowship building, and the trail is right behind this building. The church is beautiful, by the way, if you appreciate a good country church.
Another trail I like is “Lost Creek Overlook Tr”. You will want to do this trail to see the swing bridges. However it is not kids friendly. If you want to see the first swing bridge, start the trail behind the Nature Center (see it labeled on the map) parking lot. It will only take two minutes to make it to the first swing bridge, then you can turn back around.
Another popular trail is the biking trail that leads to a Travis Hollow Bridge taking you across the lake (see labeled on map). It is paved and kid friendly. The marina and some of the amenities are seasonal. So call ahead before you make plans to visit. Hope this Adventure Guide has been helpful. Please comment below with any questions, and more adventure guides you’d like to have. Thanks for reading!
